Wear Your Voice Partners With Planned Parenthood For Their New Series, Summer of Sex
Summer of Sex is a multimedia project centering Black, brown, and Indigenous people’s experiences with sex.
Wear Your Voice is excited to announce a partnership with Planned Parenthood for our Summer of Sex campaign! The work Planned Parenthood performs as a healthcare provider and the resources they offer as educators of sexual and reproductive wellness are representative of the needs of LGBTQIA+ BIPOC, communities we center in our work as an intersectional feminist publication.
Summer of Sex is a multimedia project centering Black, brown, and Indigenous people’s experiences with sex. Sex is something that cannot be singularly defined, and yet so many continually attempt to define it through rigid hetero and cisnormative understandings. With this campaign, we are igniting and continuing important conversations about sex — from sex positivity, sexual health, and sexual liberation to purity culture’s effects on people of color, especially queer and trans folks. From desirability politics — how racism, misogyny, fatphobia, ableism, and more impact how we think about sex, attraction, humanity, and certain people’s prescribed roles — to masturbation and sex toys. From STI stigma and sex education to debunking myths about the clitoris and de-centering the penis and penetration in our understandings of sex and pleasure. We want to explore the myriad of ways QTBIPOC experience sex and the things surrounding it.
Using our platform, we are producing and publishing a series of articles, features, essays, and interviews focused on promoting marginalized voices on the subject of sex, and Planned Parenthood is making this campaign possible through their sponsorship. We’re excited to be working with a legacy non-profit like Planned Parenthood and we’re thrilled to highlight the voices of those who have long been ignored to the forefront of these discussions around sex and sexuality with Summer of Sex.
You can support Planned Parenthood by donating, taking action, and volunteering. At a time when our reproductive rights are under attack, it is imperative that those of us who are able to help lend our time, energy, and funds to combating the forces that seek to control our bodies and prevent healthcare access for marginalized people.
Every single dollar matters to us—especially now when media is under constant threat. Your support is essential and your generosity is why Wear Your Voice keeps going! You are a part of the resistance that is needed—uplifting Black and brown feminists through your pledges is the direct community support that allows us to make more space for marginalized voices. For as little as $1 every month you can be a part of this journey with us. This platform is our way of making necessary and positive change, and together we can keep growing.
