Social Media’s Dropping #BlackLivesMatter Truth Bombs
As this article is not about me at all, but about the importance of every Black male, female, trans, or otherwise identified humyn, I want to start by honoring the movement as such. In fact, Wear Your Voice Magazine as a whole decided to halt what we had pending for publishing in order to address what we know is the single most important issue in America currently – visibilising the importance of Black lives and de-centering the power of Whiteness. There are so many things I feel passionately compelled to speak on this topic, but instead I will model the holding of space for others voices to be heard in this safe space created here and now, specifically by highlighting powerful social media responses to the Baltimore Riots and #blacklivesmatter movement as a whole. (This of course is not nearly a comprehensive list – it represents the lens of knowledge on my own social media feeds, which I have chosen to highlight here to provide more support and visibility.)
While the police release rubber bullets, we’re releasing truth bombs…
Note to All: get off those legalized pedestals, and fight for what is actually just! (I will never pretend for a moment to say that I believe in the sanctity of the law to actually protect all people, and neither would my long-time defense attorney grandfather, may he Rest in Power, who fought for the rights of the invisible for the duration of his career.)
If you are more disturbed by riots than murders: get your priorities in order and address your own demons that have been lurking just long enough in the shadows to jump out at you now!
Using Black on Black crime as a distraction tactic simply will not be tolerated!
Reminders for police accountability coming from all sources! As I heard the protestors in Oakland yesterday chanting powerfully: “OPD you can’t hide, we charge you with genocide!”
RE-READ this as many times as you need to allow it to fully sink in – this post challenges those within and without the Black community to widen the scope of love to ALL Black people! #BlackWomynsLivesMatter #BlackTransLivesMatter
A SUPER RELEVANT challenge on the LGBTQ community to wake up and smell the hypocrisy! We know about the Supreme Court hearings, but what good are marriage rights without life rights?!
I mean, really, I couldn’t be more proud to have this womyn wearing her voice as our Editor. Thanks for that delightfully snarky and to-the-point truthiness, Monica, especially at such a heavily gentrified time for Oakland!
Awwww, did you get tricked by this brilliant racism trap!? #sorrynotsorry
NEWSFLASH: the first Yogis were Warriors – get off your overpriced mats and go fight the good fight (or at least stop ignorantly judging others for doing so out of the blindness of your own privilege!)
< DOUBLE BOOM from two powerful humyns un-aplogetically and authentically wearing their voices daily (I know, because I hold an infinite amount of “likes” for their constant activist words). >
P.S. Dear White People, Just in case the previous truth bombs confronted you to the core, raised your defenses and made you unable to digest the truth presented, I have chosen 3 of my very favorite memes from newly-discovered Facebook page Clarissa Explains White Supremacy – I think it could be just relatable enough!
I SINCERELY HOPE THIS ARTICLE SERVES AS A REMINDER TO CONTINUE WEARING YOUR VOICE ABOUT MORE THAN YOUR FASHION CHOICES, BUT ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER, MORALS, AND VALUES – WHEN THE REVOLUTION IS UPON US, HOW ARE YOU LEVERAGING YOURSELF IN SERVICE OF OTHERS BY SPEAKING OUT FOR JUSTICE? DON’T STOP TO THINK, JUST GO WRITE AN ELOQUENT FACEBOOK STATUS IN SUPPORT OF #BLACKLIVESMATTER AND PRESS POST NOW!
