This weekend, do like I’ve been doing:

Act like you’re on

Spring Break Weekend Oakland

Mosey on into the afternoon by checking out the life size mock up model of new bart train at West Oakland Bart because why the hell not? Voice your opinions now to influence the comfort of your tush during commuting hours in the future.
2-7 PM

Can’t afford the therapy you could so very much benefit from? Go see “HER” at The New Parkway. I cried through the whole thing because it was so relevant to my current relationship with love and the simple ways in which I feel I forget to be myself sometimes. If nothing else, you will surprise yourself with how easily you accept a man dating an operating system.
6:40 PM show time

Then, you may want to take a moment for a little musical interlude and head over to the Record Swap at Oakland Museum of California, a sneak peak of the new exhibits: Vinyl and SuperAwesome, with a backdrop of food trucks, DJS and mingling.

If you’d rather be read to for your low-cost therapeutic boost, check out the Heart’s Desire Reading Series at 2141 Broadway. Perhaps you will learn some deep dark secrets about your own heart’s true desires.

Not the type to open up un-aided? Perhaps the folks over at the Playa Arts Sneak Peek will have something to help you open up.
Radiance Oak

Maybe the more self-reflective type?
Smoky’s Boutique: A Menagerie of Insanity

7 p.m.
Blackball Universe Gallery

Or, if you have saved up a bit, head over to Yoshi’s to see Paul Mooney. The writer, comedian and first African American ringmaster claims that “What I get out of people in 15 minutes their psychologists can get out of them in 15 years…” (Tavis Smiley Interview)
8 & 10:30 PM

Chances are, you will want a drink after Mooney gives you a big chuck of hilarious reality, and I found the perfect beer list to keep you company at Duende. The limoncello beer whose taste is described with the word “funk” or the Coffee Stout are both incredible! Handpicked beer lists, not the same stuff that you find everywhere, is what I’m talking about. Get one of each of these beers and hum yourself home. I just checked this place out this week and I am hooked.

Not ready for self-soothing humming just yet? Stay out and head over to the the Legionnaire for
The 45 Sessions, a party featuring Vinnie Esperza, Justin Torres, and Baby James
