Fashion on the Square Awards and Fashion Show
”FOTS+TheArts™ is a non-profit organization focused on creating quality opportunities for passionate visionaries in design and art to showcase their crafts and redefine the world of fashion”
Y’Anad Burrell of Glasshouse PR is the brains behind Fashion On The Square in SF.
This year is her 10th year and you can read her exclusive interview with WYV here
The awards ceremony was a small, very personal event and its location Oakland no less – ”Imagine Affairs”, 408 14th Street, Oakland, CA, (lovely location by the way!) Of course I could not – not attend because what is WYV about? None other than Oakland of course!
So a little awards ceremony, a little fashion…and it is always the fashion that makes our hearts beat and fingers twitch right? I know it….
So here it is, these are just some of the designs that came down the makeshift runway at this event. Please audience take note – real shaped women, did you see that, that’s what Y’Anad herself calls ‘fluffy’ & I personally call this bloody gorgeous and about bloody time too. (Yes I am a Brit, is it obvious?)
The first designer, Jacquelynn of J Richell fashions, I wanted to know what we always want to know, the story behind the collection. Ms Richell is trying to capture ”each emotion that we have & how we want to feel” Oh yes I get that, sometimes it’s an all black day for me and sometimes I look oh so California girl, in my lively bright colors, but mostly I prefer black and Jacquelynn’s collection is all black! Yay for black!
Now this is great, so effective. Horizontal stripes on a curvy body, considered BIG fashion no-no, but ladies this right here, this is a fashion ‘yes-yes’ and I give you full permission to call this designer and order one right now. See that line down the middle? Then see the horizontal stripes don’t match up, see that???? GENIUS! Anyone can wear this, preferable if you have the curves to go with it. Yes skinny girls, I am not hating on you, well kinda, but it’s so rare that we curvy ladies get the a-ok to wear something with full permission from a fashion magazine! WYV gives you permission!
So Jacqueline of J Richell fashions does it again, this, my gorgeous audience creates illusion, yes this is a magic show! Not really, look I get excited, it’s not magic but it’s bloody marvelous, slim fit sexy dress, (that may not require spanx, and we all know how much I HATE spanx), with this ruffling detail on the side that enhances curve and yet hides the bulk that we try and squeeze into our spanx. Again, another moment of curvaceous genius on behalf of J Richell. It was stunning, and I must find a way to own this!

Jacquelynn’s father arrived from Las Vegas just in time to view his daughters collection. The emotion they displayed to one another as they embraced, made me envious, (yes I am human).
I miss my Dad he is long gone
He was gushing with pride for his daughters achievements. So proud.
Thank you Jacquelynn’s father, thank you Ms Richell for letting me steal a hug and a photo opportunity with your Daddy!
Parents are so precious
Now moving on – I bring you Ronita designer of collection, Le Belle Moi – whom has a story that inspired her sewing and had her create this collection, but that my lovely audience will be the follow up interview!
See that panel detail down the side, the strip of clever color blocking, remember I talked about illusion? There you have it, again, a designer who is thinking about the end result, the end result on a real shaped woman. Hallelujah!
I had the opportunity to speak with Ronita this is my take away. ‘Sex spots’ yes I am going to talk about sex. Calm down, we are not talking g-spot, but sex spots and no not sex positions either!
For Ronita, it is always about enhancing the sex spots on a woman’s body and bringing that out, showing that off and still being comfortable. YES!!
Yay for illusion. Yay for sex spots. Yay for sex…(haha-sorry ;-))
See this outfit, this is what you call a two for one! Who doesn’t love a bargain?! The zip detail elongates from the back, another curvy model moment and yet another outfit from the front! Ronita of Le Belle Moi, has sizes from 0-26! Go order something now!
You can find Ronita’s designs here
And now moving onto the awards ceremony and the lovely people who attended!
