MEET THE LADIES, because Ashley Graham and Robyn Lawley are creating such groundbreaking buzz in mainstream media, I felt it only appropriate for our publication to pluck them from their respective Sports Illustrated pages, and let them wear their voices and entrepreneurial spirits on this one. From bikinis to brains (*gasp*) – we are exposing the brilliant minds behind the bodacious bods!

My only *wink & nod* to a certain impending romantical holiday this weekend, will be that there is currently a “buy one, get one 40% off” sale for Ashley Graham’s lingerie line at Addition Elle online (aka I hope my partner is reading this right now)! The line is uniquely sexy and celebratory of all womyns bodies. I definitely support purchasing that supports my body, so, even if it does tie-in to yet another culturally and capitally co-opted holiday such as Valentine’s Day, I say go for it! In fact, #treatyoself any damn day of the week!
Robyn Lawley is also a fashion entrepreneur with her exquisite high-end bathing suit line, Robyn Lawley Swimwear, which looks like it was designed by a body positive womyn for body positive womyn (a rare gem of a thing). They are gorgeous, but highly priced – many averaging around $180, which sadly puts them just way out of my grad student range! (*This hints at one future topic I will be exploring which is Body Positive Fashion: Access & Privilege.)
#SoMuchYes! – 6 INSPIRING BODY POSITIVE QUOTES From ASHLEY & ROBYN:
“It’s not just about being healthy; it’s also about loving who you are. If you don’t love who you are, you are never going to feel 100 percent satisfied in life. It all starts with you. If you don’t love you, nobody else is going to be able to.”
“Our mothers and grandmothers fought so hard for our rights and the fact we throw that word in their faces is a real insult to what they achieved for us. We are now just so obsessed with our bodies and our image, we’re forgetting that what we really need to fight for right now is equal pay and equal rights.”
“I started a group called ALDA – it means ‘wave’ in Icelandic – with four other plus-size models. We go to schools to talk about body image acceptance, the UN wants us to do a panel discussion… Things are happening, it’s exciting. Now is the time: people want to know about curvy women.”
“Curves don’t epitomize a woman. Saying, ‘Skinny is ugly’ should be no more acceptable than saying fat is. I find all this stuff a very controlling and effective way of making women obsess over their weight, instead of exploiting their more important attributes, such as intellect, strength and power.”
In lieu of my traditional “Outfit of the Week,” and inspired by researching so many #CurvesInBikinis, #Fatkinis, and general booming #BodyPositive news, I have compiled 4 of my favorite beach looks that I could find of myself – I realize now that I don’t have many full-body shots to choose from since my self-love exploration has been mostly blossoming over the past couple of years. I do know that once I find the perfect two-piece for me, I will share it proudly on here with you all!
