If you missed Oakland Carnaval you missed out!  A much more low key time than the SF festivities, the mood was chill, the music and dance was all of the bedazzled glory one might want out of a show. The history of Carnaval is super interesting and culturally complex. Each region has it’s own specific roots to festival.  Though my knowledge is not vast– this is my visual experience of how Oakland puts on a Carnaval    There were vendors selling clothes, massages and fantastic jewelry.  There were events like SambaFunk performing on the main stage—- and then in the little corners of Mosswood people just brought their drums and were rocking out in constantly shifting circles. Such good VIBES!  As someone who spends a lot of time around  performance art, it was so nice to be in a space that was more focused on community and celebration!
