Wear Your Voice: How do you describe your personal style?
Minerva Siegel: My personal style is very mood-based and always bold. I go for cohesive looks, but I range from emanating a punk rock-inspired vibe to rocking ultra-feminine ensembles. My motto, though, is “Go big or go home!” I’m a woman who’s drawn to extremes, and this is typically reflected in my fashion choices. I believe that anyone can pull off absolutely any look if they feel it in their bones and wear it with confidence.
WYV: Tell us a bit about your day-to-day life, as well as how you got into body positivity, writing and modeling.
MS: Writing and modeling are my passions; when I’m doing neither, I’m a housewife who spends her days drinking champagne, stuffing her multiple walk-in closets with new clothes and doting on her rescue dogs.
I initially got into modeling simply because people loved my style. After I became a housewife, I found myself bored and made an Instagram account that unexpectedly attracted a solid amount of followers. Companies started finding me on social media and sending me clothing to promote, and it just kind of evolved from there. Photographers started asking to work with me, and now I’ve been published in print and online internationally as both a model and writer.
I’m also super passionate about sex positivity, animal welfare, feminism, being proactive about mental health issues and fat positivity.
WYV: Who are your top 3 celebrity StyleCrushes?
MS: My #1 StyleCrush will always be Her Holiness, Our Lord and Savior, Beth Ditto. She inspires me endlessly. Whenever I model, I consciously try to channel my inner Beth Ditto. She’s a fearless, fat femme fatale with a beauty and style all her own. I love her to bits!
Divine is another inspiration of mine. Her bold, brash, no-fucks-given trash-couture fashion sense is #goals. I love the way she, as a fat person, wore ultra-tight, figure-hugging garments with complete confidence. She rocked every damn thing she wore.
Is it too cliché to admit that ’90s Courtney Love is another huge fashion inspiration of mine? I love the way she wasn’t afraid to show skin in a wild-mess-meets-pretty way. She was always so effortlessly stylish because she walked tall in everything she wore. She’s still drop-dead gorgeous, of course, but her style has changed tremendously over the years, and I’m ever in love with her quintessential feminine grunge looks.
WYV: Which stores/brands/designers are your faves?
MS: I’m obsessed with Beth Ditto’s spring and winter collections! They’re so lovely! I love that she’s unafraid to play with shapes and prints that traditionally plus-size babes have been told to avoid. I have several pieces by her and I love them all to bits.
In terms of where I shop, I’m super impressed with Charlotte Russe now that they’ve stepped up their plus-size game. A large part of my wardrobe comes from them. I find Torrid to be overpriced, and while I’m not impressed by the quality, I love their bras! They’re all I wear. NYDJ makes the best denim for plus-size women! I’m a size 26 usually, and I wear a 24 in NYDJ. A lot of their styles are USA-made, too, which is awesome! Society+ is another super great company — they’re body positive and they carry a big range of sizes. They have the most amazing tulle skirts! I go to them for a lot of my dresses and skirts.
WYV: Which big-name designers would you like to see move into the plus-size market?
MS: ALL OF THEM. Plus-size babes are amazing, and we deserve the exact same style options as our thinner counterparts. The second high-end fashion designers open their eyes and see that plus-size babes deserve to get in on the game, I’m going to be all over it. It’s an absolute tragedy that top designers create collections exclusively for a singular body type, especially given the ridiculously vast amount of physical variation possible within humanity. How absurd and cruel it seems to exclude so much of the population like they do.
For too long, plus-sizers have been served up regurgitated shapes repackaged as something new. I’m so sick of peplums, I could die, for instance. I want to see the same high-end fashion trends that thinner babes get to rock created for plus-size bodies, because we are just as capable as slaying as they are.
Alexander McQueen inspires me endlessly. I find myself constantly drooling over the celestial, etherial prints, airy, feminine fabrics, historical throwbacks and perfectly-tailored structure showcased in McQueen collections. I’m obsessed, and it really bums me out that they don’t make garments in my size. Get with the times, McQueen!
WYV: What do you hope to see more of in media and fashion?
MS: I want to see more babes unapologetically being bold with fashion. I want to see babes losing this obsession we have as a society with a singular, narrowly-defined idea of beauty, and instead embracing themselves as they are. I want to see more lingerie-inspired pieces, or just straight-up lingerie as streetwear. For too long, fat babes have been told we need to hide our bodies beneath shapeless sacks and draw as little attention to ourselves as possible. I want to see that whole notion turned on its head and stamped into the ground beneath our big, fat boots.
How do you feel representation can help big-bodied people?
MS: We need to normalize fat bodies, and giving representation to bodies of all different sizes and shapes will help accomplish that goal. People are fat for so many different reasons, and they’re all no one’s business. People deserve to feel confident and live happy, productive lives regardless of their size, and more representation of plus-size bodies will show babes of all sizes that you don’t have to look a certain way to be valuable and loved.

WYV: Not everyone can be positive all of the time. What do you do to talk yourself out of occasional body negativity?
MS: Honestly, whenever I’m feeling negative, I take a step back and look at things existentially. Atomically, all we know to be real is comprised of just a bunch of vibrating particles too small to be seen; everything is an illusion created by our poor human eyesight. We’re all made of the same cosmic, everlasting stuff. We’re infinite. We’re magic. We’re nothing and we’re everything, all at once. Our whole lifetimes are cosmic blips — blinks of an eye to the universe. Why waste the preciously minute time we have here worrying about anything other than being compassionate, incandescently happy people? Why waste time worrying about jiggle or stretch marks or crooked teeth or scars? How silly and small body image issues seem when thought of from cosmic and atomic perspectives. Life is unpredictable and meant to be lived- don’t waste your life fretting about perceived physical imperfections, because they literally don’t matter.

What do you do when you're too full of feels and having a bad day? Drink a bunch of coffee, blast some sick tunes and be a fox 💋 #fatshion #goodvibes #plussizefashion #psstyle #alternativecurves #flauntyourcurves #chubbygirl #chubbybunny #chubbygirls #fatbabe #loveyourself
WYV: How do you wear your voice?
MS: I wear my voice by daring to be unapologetically authentic, regardless of my audience. I take to social media with things I’m passionate about. I vote with my dollar for the world I want to create by purchasing as much USA-made, cruelty-free fashion as possible.
