Another Justification of My Lipstick Addiction
I am a lipstick addict so I had to follow up on my first lipstick article. It helps me to justify my expensive habit. I bought all this lipstick for research, guys! For you! You’re welcome.
Benefit Posietint Lip & Cheek Stain, $30 at Sephora
This is decribed by Benefit as a “see-through tint” but there’s too much see-through and not enough tint. I bought a trial version of this and I love it as a cheek stain, but it seems a waste to use it on my lips. What’s the point of lipstick if you can’t tell I’m wearing it? Keep this on your cheeks and off your lips.
Best Uses: As a cheek stain. This is my go-to pink blush, but I never use it on my lips.
Cons: Way too subtle, it too-perfectly mimics my own lip color. Tastes weird. Not worth the steep price.
Pixi Tinted Brilliance Balm in Pretty Pink, $14 at pixibeauty.com
I got this in an ipsy bag and it really is brilliant. It’s so moisturizing and gives you a delightfully subtle pop of color. It has a slight mint flavor so it tingles and it tastes great. I wear this mostly when I’m running errands or my lips feel dry. It’s my detox from my usual drying matte lipsticks.
Best Occasions: The beach!
Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids Lipcolor in Fuschia Flash, $7.50 at Ulta
Fuschia lipstick screams “I don’t give a fuck and I am fabulous.” This shade is much too bright and bold for everyday… at least for me. If you are the kind of person who can rock fuschia lipstick daily, I salute you. This lipstick was a gift and I’ve never actually worn it in public, but I’ve tried it on in my apartment, and my furniture all agrees that I look great.
Best occasions: When you feel like a pretty, girly cupcake.
Cons: The color has so far been too intense, even for me. One day I will wear it somewhere.
Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Catfight, $22 at Sephora
This was my birthday gift from the Sephora rewards program last year. It’s a beautiful berry shade and wears nicely. It will last you an evening, but it is not kiss-proof. This lipstick can handle wine glasses, and probably water glasses as well, if you’re into that sort of thing. It tends to come off on your food, unfortunately. So, yeah, it’s a little high maintenance but it sure is pretty.
Best Occasions: For a night out that doesn’t involve kissing or greasy food.
Cons: “Catfight” is a gross misogynistic name. Boo, Urban Decay.
Hikari Lipstick in Cabernet, $13 at hikaricosmetics.com
I go back and forth on this one because it’s such a pretty deep red but it comes off on everything. After trying it for the first time last week, I went to a coffee shop and got a gluten-free muffin and a coffee. I ate and drank these things as I worked. I couldn’t shake the feeling that people were looking at me funny, but I told myself I was being paranoid. It wasn’t until I got back into my car after two hours that I realized my lipstick was smeared all over my chin. This stuff can’t even handle a muffin and a coffee, so it’s not for me. On the plus side, it’s named after wine. Yum, wine.
Best occasions: You are on a complete food, water, cigarette and kissing cleanse.
Cons: Doesn’t stay in place. I don’t like it.
