20 Holiday Glam Makeup Tutorials
The holiday season can be difficult for a million different reasons: money, not getting along with family, difficulty finding gifts, being away from home and finding a look to sleigh are just the tip of the iceberg. Fear not: there are tons of brilliant makeup artists who are just dying to share their holiday look with vexed viewers or folks who just need a bit of holiday inspo.
We’ve gathered a variety of makeup artists from various backgrounds to show off their holiday looks.
Not all holiday looks are red, green or gold-based! This fun party look features a sparkly blue liner and pink lip, perfect for Hanukkah or New Year’s Eve. Blue liner looks especially spectacular on big brown eyes, but works for nearly all eye colors. Remember — no color is “not for you,” you just have to find the right shade.
Hazel and green eyes may find that a more indigo or purple-tinged blue works best for them, and blue eyes may have to find a darker shade. Have fun with this look and switch out colors as you please. It’s a great basic tutorial to build a ton of different simple-yet-fab party looks for a multitude of skin tones and eye colors, not to mention occasions!
Lonyea Maiden dubbed this her “African Princess” look because it made her feel strong and connected to her roots. The result is a look Nina Simone herself would envy. Just don’t mistake the Queen for a mere Princess!
This Christmas, try this bold green and black cat eye to channel the empowerment directly to your beautiful gaze. Switch out greens as needed to work with your undertones and outfit — an emerald or teal would also work incredibly well with this great retrofuturist cat eye.
Ellarie’s 2015 Glam Holiday Party look is still PEAK GLAM and should be celebrated for how gorgeous it is. The layering of cranberries, browns and the duochrome iridescence is brilliant (literally!), and a gorgeous play on holiday themes.
Nikki Tutorial shows us how to up the holiday glam with a beautiful golden smokey eye. This looks is gorgeous on all skin tones. You can switch to a darker brown to create a more dramatic crease on darker skin tones. For those of you with lighter colored eyes these warm tones are especially effective for contrasting with the cool tones of blues and greens.
EasyNeon’s Pinup Look is such a perfectly classic pinup, we had to include it for this roundup. The look is based around an incredibly simple (yet glamorous!) bold liquid or gel-liner eye, luxurious lashes, well-groomed brows and a bold lip. The great thing about this look is that the lip is completely interchangeable — it could work as well as well with a wild mistletoe green as it would with a neutral lip or sparkly gloss.
This beautiful simple sparkly holiday look is based on the fresh-faced beauty trend that is hip in Korea right now. We love this look because it gives an alternative to the super bold brow and heavily contoured face, as well as favoring natural lashes in lieu of the ever-popular falsie. This look still features a bold liner and lip, but it features the straight brow look that is popular in Korean beauty trends. It’s also a great tutorial for those with monolids or hooded eyes.
This look is goooorgeous. Easy to achieve, yet anything but “basic.” This bold red lip and heavy eye are universally flattering. Remember — you can wear any color, you just have to find the right shade!
For some, a blue-red is just the ticket. For others, it will be more about an earthy brick, a warm terracotta or a bold orange-red. Others may feel more comfortable in a softer, more pink-centric red or a lip stain that hints at the color without being such a bold pop. Whatever the case may be, experiment to find your color. Remember: it’s just makeup. You can wipe it off and start over if something isn’t working for you.
We love this Old Hollywood look because it would be just as at home with a ’20s fingerwave as it is with this 1940s look. That deep, bold, glossy lip is incredible with the smoky brown eye and contoured cheek.
This deep red is sexy and luxurious, and it looks good on so many different skin tones. Some find it much easier to wear than the brighter cherry and holly shades that are often seen during the holiday season.
While this look is from 2015, we adore this gorgeous cranberry glam eye with the lighter lip so much, we had to make sure that you got a chance to check it out. We emphasize bold lips so often during the holidays, but it isn’t everyone’s thing. This is a great way to use a beautiful, simple glossy lip to put full focus on your gorgeous eyes. You can use this same technique with a variety of makeup colors. Try it out!
Pro tip: If you want to switch from the “Nice” to “Naughty” list in about thirty seconds, just switch the lip color to a plum or burgundy for a night out after opening presents with the fam.
While burlesque artists have been doing this for decades, this particular iconic red glitter lip was conceptualized by celebrity makeup artist Pat McGrath and made famous by the queen of face, timeless supermodel Naomi Campbell, at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards. Other famous faces who have been seen rocking the lip are Chrissy Tiegen and Shae Mitchell, who have slayed the darker shades.
While this debuted in August, it has “holiday glam” written all over it.
Polish your halo with this gorgeous glow. This more subdued “girly” glow would be great for holiday events at work or with more conservative family members. Switch out the sweetly pink pout for a bold lip before you go to the after party.
This gold cut crease is everything! The high-glamour look is equally retro AND modern, which makes it especially fun to play with. You could go fully modern with this by wearing loose curls and a bodycon dress with stilettos, or go for a gorgeous ’60s mod look with big hair and knee-high boots.
G Beauty’s green liner and dark red lip is super simple and easy to achieve. Based on your skin and eye color, find a green that works best for you. As always, the secret to makeup is finding your shade and formula and making that work for you.
Shae Xo’s sparkly green and red look is so much fun while still maintaining the glamorous aesthetic the holidays are known for. The look is easily interchangeable with different glitter and lip colors. If you don’t like this, watch it for inspiration and tweak it to fit your color preferences.
Melly centers this gorgeous look around a bold green eye, heavy lashes and a warm but somewhat neutral pout with absolutely luminous skin. The result is gorgeous holiday glam that would fit perfectly in a snowless/warmer climate.
Naomi Jonzeck combines the deep grunge-inspired burgundy lip with a warm amber-bronze eye and bold brows. Equal parts glamour girl and hard femme, the result is bold and powerful, a great look for holiday parties where you want to own the room.
Kim Thai goes for a burnt caramel look instead of the more common red, berries and gold, and we love it! This warm look brings out blue eyes, as shown with Kim Thai’s contact lenses, but looks equally gorgeous on all eye colors.
Jasmine Rose’s winter cranberry is achieved by a strongly contoured eye, gorgeous sparkly metallic shadow and bold lip. Universally attractive, this look is especially gorgeous on deep skin tones, bringing out the natural radiance in dark brown eyes — especially with the tightlining and lengthening of the eye shape. The result is stunning.
PONY’s Snowflake look is beautifully simple and delicate, with just a kiss of glitter and a beautiful cherry stain. The look is perfectly indicative of the natural look that is so popular in east Asia at the moment, where Korean beauty brands are really leading the way. The result is fresh with a focus on clear, dewy skin and a gentle blush of color.
This Winter Wonderland Look is PEAK GLAM! Everything is dialed up to 11 with these full lashes, big smoky eyes, contoured cheeks and a glitter pout. If you want to command attention wherever you go without going for the more traditional red lip, this is how to do it.
