Fatphobia: A Wear Your Voice Reading List

Fatphobia: A Wear Your Voice Reading List

Wear Your Voice assembled this reading list to help people learn more about fatphobia and its interconnected oppressions.

Dismantling fatphobia, white supremacy and other oppressions is foundational to the work that we create at Wear Your Voice. We believe that various systems of power are interconnected and therefore we must tackle them as such. Anti-fatness is a pervasive and deadly threat to our society and it is closely linked to white supremacy—more specifically anti-Blackness—ableism, and capitalism.

While some of our pieces explore how fatphobia is a form of abuse, linked to state-sanctioned violence, and colonialism, other pieces analyze how fat people are represented in pop-culture and some celebrate fatness in beautiful and affirming ways.

We assembled this reading list to offer our readers a comprehensive look at the wide variety of work that we have done on this vast topic, and we hope that it can be used as an educational resource as well as one to help people undo their internalized fatphobia.
