Snoop Dogg’s Daughter, Cori B, Claps Back on Colorism
Snoop Dogg’s daughter, Cori Broadus, is shedding light on a topic that has been swept under the rug in the hip-hop community for too long: colorism. In a recent interview, Cori B. describes how she came to hold a message of self-love, but it hasn’t been easy. Cori was bullied heavily on social media for her brown skin, but instead of hiding away, she continued posting and became a source of inspiration for thousands of followers.
“I started loving my skin tone like 2 or 3 months ago.”
Looking at the lighter-skinned female entertainers who have traditionally been embraced in the hip-hop community, it’s apparent that colorism is still a hurtful epidemic that hurts women of color in particular. Thankfully, brave women like Cori B are beginning to speak up and become a source of strength for the masses. Internally racist phrases such as “You’re pretty — for a dark skinned girl” will no longer fly as they once did. Check out Cori B’s interview posted below.
