“Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to get through this thing called life…”

It is with a very, very heavy collective heart that we announce that the brilliant, genre-defying icon, Prince, has died at the age of 57.

Prince Rogers Nelson, the artist known simply as Prince, died at his Paisley Park estate in Chanhassen, Minnesota. While no one has announced the cause of death. Prince was rushed to the hospital last week; one of his publicists said he was struggling with the flu.

Prince influenced generations of musicians in rock, hip hop, pop, jazz and beyond. He released 39 studio albums, had five singles at the top of charts and 14 other songs in the Top 10. Prince won an Oscar for the original song score to the classic film Purple Rain.

Prince once said, “A strong spirit transcends rules.” Wherever you are, we hope you break all of the rules in that astral plane.

We'll miss you, Prince.

We’ll miss you, Prince.
