Saying that fat women and femmes get a bad rep is the understatement of the century. As a woman of size, I can attest to the fact that depictions of us either objectify and hypersexualize us — or completely drain us of sexuality. Simply having FUN can be an act of defiance and liberation.

PudgePDX, a now defunct Portland-based organization of fat folks and their allies, put together a gorgeous calendar full of amazing images. Fat people as art, fat people as artists and musicians, fat people as mermaids, fat people as lovers, fat people as people. Photographers Beth Olson, Kyle Lang and Suma Jane Dark teamed up with the PudgePDX committee helmed by makeup artist Bethany Tate and her creative team to create gorgeous images allowing fat people to just have fun. Here are a few of the outtakes that didn’t make it into the calendar; they’re too gorgeous to miss.
