Self-Care Sunday: New Moon Ritual
Today, the moon goes through its own rebirth at 10:38 a.m. Pacific time. According to our feminist astrologer, The Mystical Sister, this is one of the most powerful Moons of the year.
Take time today to harness that energy and direct it into the goals and projects that you wish to see come to completion in the next six months.
Our suggestion for this #SelfCareSunday is to take the time to do a simple new Moon ritual. New Moon rituals differ from full Moon rituals in that new Moons bring in new energy.
Instead of letting go and letting god, as full Moon rituals tell us to do, new Moon rituals are about harnessing the new energy and setting our intentions for what we want. In new Moon rituals, we reach out and pull that energy toward us, instead of pushing the old out.
You do not need an altar for these exercises, but we certainly do not discourage it. You could even simply create a vision board of what you want, cutting out images and words that reflect your goals for this new Moon ritual.
Going without these is fine as well. You can simply write out what you wish.
If you are a particularly social person, you may choose to create a new Moon ritual with other friends, as suggested by Mystic Mamma.
Start by Grounding Yourself.
To start your ritual, sage and cleanse your space. If you do not have sage, light some incense and imagine it pushing out unwanted energy from your space.
From there, do a meditative grounding exercise. Imagine yourself to be connected to the earth through a series of intricate roots. From the Earth emanates life-giving energy. It moves through these roots into your body where you receive this energy, create your own and give it back to the Earth. Thank it for its light, life and love as you return the energy, which is now intermixed with your own love and goodwill.
Create Your Circle.
Imagine yourself surrounded by a ring of energy, water or anything that feels safe and protective for you. Relax. Breathe in the love and energy of the cosmos and breathe out air charged with the same magic. Imagine a scorpion as you invite the energy into your circle.
“Scorpio brings the energy of the Phoenix to this new Moon, and with this potent ally, we can burn away the fragments that remain of the life and patterns we wish to leave behind and be reborn from the ashes,” Rebelle Society’s C. Ara Campbell says of the sign and this new Moon.
This new Moon is expected to peel away layers and burn through the old, severing frayed ties and loose ends. That ex that you’re still sleeping with, hoping they will come around? This moon is the time to put an end to that and call forth real love and deep bonds.
Meditate on Your Truths.
What’s really holding you back? Is it you, forces around you, or a combination? Do you need to ask for help or cull folks from your life to get where you need to be?
What are you most afraid of? Scorpio wants you to confront your deepest inner fears. No, not spiders. Loneliness. Self-worth. Feelings of hopelessness or being unlovable. Not being able to reach your goals. What is it inside of you that you truly fear the most?
Face those fears head on and create an affirmative message with them.
Journal Your Intentions.
Light a candle and open your journal.
This moon is about seeing your inner truths. What better way than to get out your journal and write out your intentions?
Scorpio doesn’t mess around when it comes to personal discovery. It peels back the layers of lies and half-truths that we put out for the rest of the world to see and have even begun to believe ourselves. Once you get down to the emotional bones, you can look at what you really want.
Scorpio is calling you to speak from your heart. You can either write your intentions or put them into the cosmos by clearly stating them.
Write out what you truly want. Once you are done writing it out, read each desire and imagine how it would feel to get it.
Seriously — stop and imagine what it would look like in your life, how it would feel and what it would allow you to do with your life. Truly feel it and envision it in order to manifest it.
For example: This new Moon, I want clarity and peace of mind. This will allow me to focus on my work, be calmer in my relationship with my fiance and be more mindful.
I imagine being able to gracefully navigate things that hurt my feelings because I am not attacked by a jumble of emotions, focus on one task at a time and breathe through misunderstandings with my loved ones.
It could be more concrete, like my desire to produce no less than ten articles per week. That would be accomplished by clearing my mind, setting production goals and being mindful of my time. It would look like less chaos because I was ahead of schedule and actually allow more free time because I have used my working time wisely.
Desires can be less tangible, like, “I want to bring deep love into my life.” Well, what work do you need to do to get there? What does “deep love” look like? Speak the words to manifest that which you desire.
Now, you try!
Turn Your Intentions Into Affirmations.
Reword some of your intentions to become affirmations. Create a list of those affirmations and repeat them weekly during meditation.
The Little Sage writes about how to create these affirmations and use them throughout the month.
First, write a list of what you want, as you did in the previous step. Now, take that image that you created while manifesting it and put it into words.
“I want to bring deep love into my life” becomes “I am surrounded by people who understand me and support me,” or “My partner and I speak freely and lovingly” — whatever it means to you.
Repeat your affirmations over and over, meditating on what each looks like until you believe them. You will begin drawing that which you need and want toward you.
Whether it is internal or with help of the cosmos, no one can be certain. It works, though, and that’s enough for this femme to be satisfied on this #SelfCareSunday.
