Free Weekly Art Party At Era
I have a conundrum: I like going out for drinks with my friends, but I’m not big on the whole nightclub scene. I mean, I want to be surrounded by a nice mix of interesting strangers, but It’d be nice to have a comfortable enough distance where I don’t have to worry about brushing up against someone’s back sweat (or even worse-having it fly into my mouth with each hip thrust.) And then there’s times I just want to sit in a corner without seeming like I’m some anti-social creeper. I probably am, but it’s all about illusion here, folks.

Well, to my sweet delight, I just discovered Arts & Draughts (formally Arts & Drafts), a FREE weekly art party happening every Tuesday at Era Art Bar and Lounge. Era is my *favorite* spot to go for a night out-I’ve been going to Era for years. They are authentically Oakland and truly value the art scene of The Town. The space is huge and super loungey with large comfortable seating. There’s also a large open space for dancing that you’ll definitely want to take advantage of, the local DJs that spin here are vinyl gods.
The premise of Arts & Draughts is about bringing Oakland’s creative community together to paint, draw, craft, collaborate and exchange ideas with one another. They have resident artists who perform live painting, group sketchbooks, still life arrangements, as well as a collage station if you feel like getting your Van Gogh on. Oh, and did I mention they have special draught beer specials going on all night?
WHERE: Era Art Bar & Lounge, located at 19 Grand Ave. | 21+ event
WHEN: Every Tuesday, 8:00pm-closing
