5 Looks and Quotes Proving RuPaul is the Queen of Body Positivity
As RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 7 quickly speeds it’s way to the finish line with only 3 Queens and a grand finale left, it feels like the perfect time to pause and reflect on the radiantly brilliant bombshell of a mastermind behind it all – RuPaul themselves (Twitter @RuPaul)! Besides being one of the most successful and pioneering Queens of Drag, Ru often serves as one of the most compassionate and insightful mouthpieces of our time (with the ability to see and hear some one for who they are very therapeutically). That very reason is why I thought that pairing 5 of my favorite RuPaul looks of Season 7 along with 5 of my favorite, most inspiring Ru Paul quotes of all time, would make an absolute visual delight for our WYV readers to indulge in as they endure the next two painstaking weeks of waiting for the winning results! Until then, marvel away at the beautiliciousness of it all…
I always say I can’t choose favorites when compiling lists I love, however I also never say never because here is just such an instance when I can honestly say, Ru, this was my absolute favorite look of the season! I mean, it’s two Ru’s in one, complete with bare body and booty (and stellar hair)?! Yes, please! I had to pair this with my personal favorite Ru quote (seen below), which is probably the most widely used and resonated with. As I continue on my path toward becoming a Somatic Psychotherapist, I can’t help but think that Ru is already a therapist to the masses – especially the traumatized Queer community who need unconditional love and reminders about the ultimate importance of self-love.

“If you don’t love yourself, how in the hell you gonna love somebody else?”
Giving us a mixture of old-world glam with a modern-twist makes this gold ensemble a winning number no matter which way you slice it! I’m loving the balance of the left shoulder with the right hip – although having Ru all-dressed up neat as a bow, makes me want to go unwrap some fabulous gifts I should go buy for myself…like this headpiece!
“Whatever you proclaim as your identity here in the material realm is also your drag. You are not your religion. You are not your skin color. You are not your gender, your politics, your career, or your marital status. You are none of the superficial things that this world deems important. The real you is the energy force that created the entire universe!”

Cue: Me with all due respect, catcalling at the computer screen! From the balance of the bouffant and the floral pieces, to the fierce attitude the ensemble is being presented with – I couldn’t love this look any more if I tried! First thought – who is part of Ru’s dress design and glam team, currently researching this further because you all deserve a serious shout out too!
“Through my observations, it became clear that most of society’s rules and customs are rooted in fear and superstition!”

This sheer number was a serious showstopper that even has fashion bloggers comparing it to Beyonce’s stunning Met Gala gown – I can say with honesty that both parties more than wore it well – they totally rocked it. Ru is sexy and chic in this look, which I thought made a perfect nod to his famous quote featured below that reminds us: all humyns start from the same baseline and eventually have the chance to radically shift whatever social paradigm has been placed upon them since birth!
“We’re born naked, and the rest is drag.”
― RuPaul, Lettin it All Hang Out: An Autobiography
I firmly believe in the deep Psychological truth of Ru’s words below, and make it a point to only watch TV shows that are meaningful and uplifting to my spirit (via online streaming because I intentionally don’t own a television, and with the muting of every single commercial ad). As I’m sure you could already surmise, every season of Ru Paul’s Drag Race has been included in this carefully chosen list of mine! Obviously because of the huge dose of positivity and honesty it provides, but also because of its’ sheer fun, humorous, and campy nature. This mod ensemble feels exactly like a nod to that vibe – and even makes me enjoy this surprising and bold color combo!
“Be very careful of what you allow to infiltrate your consciousness and subconsciousness. When you watch too much television, you’ll start to feel inferior from all the commercials hard selling the idea that you’re not complete unless you buy their product […] The ad agencies appeal to your fear of not being wanted or loved. It’s the same with the local news. They get you to stay tuned with a constant stream of fear tactics […] It’s as if our culture is addicted to fear and the flat screen is our drug dealer. Don’t allow that crap into your head!”
