Welp…

The 2014 Oscars

One of my favorite nights of the year, has come and gone. Awards were won. Speeches were made. Tears were shed. But, more importantly, some of the most beautiful people in the world got all dolled and paraded around on the red carpet.

Regarding beauty, this was the year of nudes, neutral and natural eyes (pleeease tell me this marks the end of the winged eyeliner trend), flawless brows, and fun lip colors.

After careful consideration and a semi-heated disagreement (Margot Robbie looked great and you can’t convince me otherwise, Mom), I have finalized my top three beauty looks.

1. Cate Blanchett

Yummiest skin that ever yummed.

Yummiest skin that ever yummed.

Mmm mmm MMMMMM. Daaayum. Not only is she incredibly talented, Cate Blanchett is also the poster girl for subtle and classic beauty! And at the 2014 Oscars, she was at the top of her game in a head-to-toe nude look. No one can work the monochromatic look like she can.

To recreate the look, you’ll want: Luscious black lashes, peach blush, soft pink lips, and very subtle rose gold eyeshadow.

2. Charlize Theron

I'll take some Charlize, if you please.

I’ll take some Charlize, if you please.

Hm…let’s try to think of a time Charlize Theron didn’t look amazing (the movie “Monster” doesn’t count). Her look was sleek, glamorous and the exaggerated black eyeliner enhanced her gorgeous eyes without being over the top.

To recreate the look, you’ll want: Black liquid eyeliner (that gradually thickens as you get to the out corner of your eye), shimmery champagne eyeshadow, black mascara (on top and bottom lashes), white eyeliner in the lower lash line, petal pink blush, and a nude lip.

3. Lupita Nyong’o

Lupita, be my best friend.

Lupita, be my best friend.

Ohmygod. LUPITA. Oh. My. GOD. Lupita was flawless at the Oscars. Her flawless glowing skin and raspberry lips won me over in, like, a millisecond. Plus, she has the most adorable smile in Hollywood. And you’re never fully dressed without a smile (couldn’t help myself).

To recreate the look, you’ll want: Well-groomed and bold brows, rosy blush, raspberry lips, and a silvery/shimmery light blue-y eyeshadow (in the crease), black eyeliner (only lining the outer ½ of the lid).

Now. I have some honorable mentions. I like to call them my “Hot Lip Girls” because their lipstick color choices are unstoppable. My “Hot Lip Girls” are:

  • Emma Watson and her red lip

  • Margot Robbie and her dark purple lip (and bold brows and dark hair and all around hotness, I mean, my God).Margot Robbie Oscars
  • Kerry Washington and her deep plum lip.Kerry Washington Oscars

So, switching gears back to my girlfriend Cate, I thought I’d give her Oscar look a try and show you how I did. Don’t be discouraged if, when/if you give her look a shot, it doesn’t look quite like hers. The point is making her look work for your gorgeous and unique face!

Steps 1-4 starting in the upper left box.

Steps 1-4 starting in the upper left box.

Step 1: TIGHTLINE THOSE EYES. Using a flat liner brush and Laura Mercier’s Tightline Cake Eyeliner in Black Ebony, I lined my upper lash line.

Step 2: With a brow comb and slanted brush, I filled in my brows using short upward strokes making it a more natural brow look. PS Not flipping you off in this box…even though it kiiinda looks like it.

Step 3: Using a the Bare Minerals blush brush and Chanel blush in 65 Espiegle, I dusted the apples of my cheeks and along my cheekbones.

Step 4: Two coats of mascara using Maybelline Falsies Mascara in Blackest Black (current mascara of choice, but it will likely change in a week…per usual).

Step 5: Swiped L’Oreal’s Color Riche Balm in Caring Coral on my lips.

Step 6: CALLED IT A DAY.
