“We’ll take a cup o’ kindness yet, for auld lang syne.”
Last night was a quiet one, almost a repeat of last year to be honest. My partner & I suffer from a FOMO (shudder to use that term) of sorts. We look & look for the best NYE celebration and end up not picking anything until the last minute when the first plan is, inevitably, sold-out. Last night’s original idea was to go to the Grand Lake Theater for what promised to be an awesome night of live-stream comedy from some of my favorite comedians. We were late (again) and it sold-out – wahhh wahhh wahhhhhhhh. Oh well. NYE marches on. Instead: we went to see the movie whose preview I can’t get through without weeping: The Theory of Everything. It was good – much sadder than I expected (HOW?!?!). Then we went to get some light dinner from an establishment which I will not buzz market (not because I don’t like them, just because I don’t feel like it’s necessary). We then drove around – trying and failing to get past the police barricades in downtown Oakland – and dodging glass bottles meant for police cars. I truly hope everyone is okay today – and that everyone fought the good fight…
This climate makes for an interesting one when trying to pull together some New Year resolutions. Resolving to lose weight (the most popular of all American NY resolutions), or other resolves of-the-like, seem small & insignificant when people are dying because the color of their skin.
Let’s instead resolve to live this year with purpose. Let’s strive to make positive decisions for our lives, and continue to champion injustice. Let’s try and use our voice that others have lost. For 2015 I resolve to Wear [my] Voice.
Love you, mean it
