“Well, holy shit, it’s about time she wrote an article about the color of the year. I mean, my god, it’s almost effin’ February,” said every Wear Your Voice reader ever. Yeah, so I’m a little behind. For those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about, 1) what the hell? 2) every year Pantone decides the color of the year and the world freaks out and paints everything that color. Last year, it was Radiant Orchid (puke). This year, it’s Marsala.
I’ll be honest, in terms of makeup, Marsala scared me teeny tiny li’l bit. As a shirt? Abso-fuckin’-lutely. As drapes against an aqua blue wall? Duh. Duh duh duh. On lips? Yeah, sure! Great. On eyes? I’m scared. I’m really scared. On cheeks? Isn’t that going to be a little intense? I dunnooo.
K. Well now I do know. I marched on over to Target, picked out the most Marsala-y Marsala beauty products, and tried them all on. And, I’ll tell ya, it ain’t half bad.
- Neutrogena Lip Color Stick in Raisin.
This shade is badass. IRL, it’s kind of hard to tell here because of the lighting, it’s deep without being intimidating. Plus, it goes on really smooth and is super moisturizing.
- e.l.f. Long-Lasting Lustrous Eyeshadow in Soiree.
This stuff is the shit. You open it and you’re all like, “Oh muh gah it’s a loose powder I gotta be careful not to spill it errywhere.” But, then when you touch it, it’s light and fluffy, LIKE GODDAMN MOUSSE AU CHOCOLAT. You heard me. MOUSSE AU CHOCOLAT FOR YOU FACE BITS.
- Covergirl Classic Color Blush in Iced Plum.
This one scared me the most. Having an accidentally intense blush day is one of my worst fears. Behind dying, heights, and spiders. And serial killers. And cereal killers (boo). But, it’s not that bad. I have to be careful to apply with a light hand, but it’s nice and warm.
- Essie Nail Polish in In Stitches.
This one is pretty spot on. I didn’t test it out because I got a really adorable manicure today before I bought it. Sorryyy. But, it’s probably gonna be super pretty.
Here are swatches of the products (with and without flash).
I hope I’ve inspired you to give Marsala a shot! Or at least getcha thinkin’ about it, anyway.
